How does CHM work?

Christians share each other’s medical bills by the monthly share (your monthly 'premium'). CHM is not an insurance company, it's based on Christian principles.

All medical events within the Guidelines of CHM will be paid from the monthly shares (premiums) all CHM members put in. However, there are minimums to meet and you have a Personal Responsibility (AKA deductible):

Personal Responsibility

Members have a annual Personal Responsibility (PR) if they have a medical event/illness. (It's like an annual insurance deductible)

Gold Plan; member's personal responsibility: $1,250 per year

Silver Plan; member's personal responsibility: $3,000 per year

Bronze Plan; member's personal responsibility: $6,000 per year

SeniorShare Plan; member's personal responsibility: 500 per year

Qualifying Amount

The Qualifying Amount (QA), is an amount what needs to be met, before you can submit bills to CHM and become eligible for reimbursement. This is not for a single bill, this is for your total bills for this one medical event. You add up all the bills from the initial doctor's visit to all lab testing, procedures, follow up visits etc.

Gold Plan; Qualifying Amount: $1,250 per year

Silver Plan; Qualifying Amount: $3,000 per year

Bronze Plan; Qualifying Amount: $6,000 per year

SeniorShare Plan; Qualifying Amount: 500 per year

As you can see, the Qualifying Amount and the Personal Responsibility are the same amounts. Let's look an example on how this works.

Gold Plan Example

(read all the way to the end to get a full understanding):

In January you go to the doctor. He orders a CT scan, Ultra Sound, Lab work and a follow up visit. The total bills for this medical event add up to be $2,200.00 after self pay discounts.

You submit all the bills through the easy online portal, because your Qualifying Amount -QA- is more than $1,250. Your reimbursement will be $2,200 - $1,250 = $950.00 from CHM, because you have an annual Personal Responsibility (or deductible) of $1,250. Now that you have met your deductible, there will be no more deductible for the rest of the year.

In July you see your specialist routinely, who orders a colonoscopy. The visit, colonoscopy, anesthesia, the lab and the follow up visit total an amount of $6,000 after discount.

CHM will reimburse you $6,000 because you have met your PR -personal responsibility- AND your QA - Qualifying Amount- is over $1,250, so you have met all the criteria.

In November you go for your annual exam. The doctor orders lab work and some other medical testing. Your total bills add up to be $1,250.

Because you have met the QA (Qualifying Amount of $1,250 and you already have met your annual deductible, your reimbursements from CHM will be $1,250.

Please note that the Gold plan is the only plan with comprehensive coverage.

If you have a medical event (or an illness) and the total bills for the visit, testing, labs etc. etc.) are over $1,250 (Gold plan) you can submit all your bills for reimbursement to CHM.
